Kuato | Winter EP

While the cover’s resemblance with that terrifying rabbit Frank from “Donnie Darko” may or may not be intended, it clearly matches the abysmal dark touch of Canadian Experimental Post-rock quartet Kuato‘s second EP release, “Winter”, containing three instrumental songs with an average lenght of about ten minutes, apparelled with beautiful guitar sounds and a very original, unique style, which might be influenced by Mogwai, This Will Destroy You and Post-metal bands like Pelican, but still feels very different. Since early February, “Winter” is out on Acadian Embassy and can be downloaded for free either there or at Kuato’s bandcamp where you can also get their first untitled EP which was equally impressing. It is about time for a Kuato full lenght. Rating: ★★★★★★★★★☆

Moby – Be The One EP

Moby ist, was elektronische Musik anbelangt, nun kein ganz unbeschriebenes Blatt mehr. Dementsprechend darf man davon ausgehen, dass auch sein in Kürze erscheinendes, nunmehr zehntes Studioalbum “Destroyed” millionenfach über die Ladentische gehen wird. Als Geschäftsmann mit Riecher für den Zeitgeist, der Moby außerdem ist, hat er nun als Anreiz eine kostenlose, drei Songs umfassende EP namens “Be The One” auf seiner Website veröffentlicht, die gegen Angabe einer gültigen E-Mail-Adresse zu haben ist. Wertung: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

xrfarflight | Producing Dust EP

Hinter dem kryptischen Namen xrfarflight verbirgt sich weder ein Raumschifftyp noch ein Computervirus, sondern – man mag es kaum glauben – eine Indie-Band aus Hamburg, deren lässiger Sound sich hörbar in den Sechzigern bedient und vom retro-lastigen Klang her kaum in die deutsche Musiklandschaft passen will. Ein Grund zur Beschwerde ist das freilich nicht; wenngleich xrfarflight ihr Genre nicht neu erfinden, wird ihre via Bandcamp kostenlos erhältliche EP “Producing Dust” Freunden noisigen Indie-Rocks doch sicher zusagen. Der Titeltrack der EP schlägt dabei die Brücke zum im März erscheinenden zweiten Album des Trios, “under the spell of the cyclops`view!” auf Hafenschlammrecords. Wertung: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

The Great Wilderness | Afterimages of Glowing Visions

St. José, Costa Rica based Noise Pop / Dream Rock band The Great Wilderness was founded in ’09 by Paola Rogue and Andrea San Gil and since then released two gloomy, energetic EPs, of which the first one, “Afterimages of Glowing Visions” (unsigned, 2010), is said to be “based on a post-apocalyptic dream that leads to the discovering of one’s inner world”. Exactly what it sounds like. Put out for free on their bandcamp. Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆
